Medmgr's Review of Browning Safes Axis Pistol Rack

I have Browning John M. Browning Special Edition Vintage 25-Gun Safe that came with only one pistol rack and I was eating up shelf space storing the overflow. Other racks sit on a shelf and eats up that real estate preventing full use of the shelf. The fact that these mount on the underside of the rack using 3 screws to attach to the Browning Axis Bracket (most likely will not work with other safes/systems) means that you can use the whole shelf space above and most of the space underneath the pistols. Other under shelf style hangers have rods that sit on the shelf above meaning items stored may or may not sit flat.

My only real criticism about these are that the rods are exactly horizontal. The rods are essentially a cantilevered beam and when you put a pistol on it much of the pistols mass (the grip) is at the opposite end of the cantilever. This is fine for a lightweight pistol such as .22 or one of Browning's 1911 .380's, but placing a heavier pistol such as a Beretta 92FS on it tends to flex the rod downward and you are depending on friction to keep the pistol from falling off. If the rods started with a slight angle upward (maybe 5 degrees), the rack would inspire more confidence when storing heavier full size pistols without having to depend on the CoF to keep things from falling.

I would point out that since the rod goes into the barrel, you should not store your guns loaded on this rack.
Pros:
  • Efficient Storage
  • Fits Browning Axis
Cons:
  • Not great for heavier pistols
Best Used for:
  • Browning Safes with Axis Shelves
Would Recommend: Yes
