Big Bore's Review of Burris AR-P.E.P.R Rifle Scope Mount

I have over a dozen of these mounts in 1", 30mm, fixed, and QD. Let's get the bad out of the way. The QD, NOT the mount of subject in this review, will not return to zero if removed and replaced. Close, but not close enough for my uses.
So, that said, this permanent mount is just what the doctor ordered when you need to move your scope forward and the front ring would no longer be on the upper receiver using a standard straight ring. This offset mount lets you move the scope forward yet the clamping base remains where it should be, firmly fixed to the upper receiver rail.
The mount is a bit heavy, but it is very solid. With six clamping screws per ring, there is plenty of clamping power to keep the scope from slipping. IF, and its a big IF, it should slip anyway, a dab of pine rosin on the bottom half of the ring or a drop of 3M Scotch-Kote on the bottom half of the ring will keep the scope from slipping forever. No need to lap. The mount also comes with a smooth top half so you do not have to use the railed top portion of the ring unless you want to be tacticool or actually have a use for them. I use this mounting system on rifles from 5.56 to the LR-308 semi-automatic version of the .470 Nitro Express, the .470 Rhino, and the scopes stay in place and do not slip. Personally, I use the 3M Scotch-Kote to make double sure the scope will not ever slip in the rings, but if truth be told, I doubt it is needed. The only down side is that it is made in China but Burris must keep a pretty close on on QC because I have never had a problem with any of them, other than the QD versions NOT returning to zero if removed and reinstalled. IMO, save your money and get the fixed version. When you need an offset mount/ring, so far as I am concerned there are none better and the ones that are as good often cost twice to three times the price. Not all China stuff is junk and the PEPR mount falls into the very good category. IMO, while I really like the mount as is, the mount could stand to go on a slight diet and shed a little weight. Be that as it may, I have been a repeat customer of these mounts and will continue to buy them until I find a better value for the dollar. That might take a while.
