this unit is supposed to have a 400x300 Vox 12 micron sensor. I believe they are NOT installing this sensor in their units. And using a far cheaper/smaller one instead. instead. The picture is of an adult whitetail deer 35 years away.
The sensor resolution is much closer to the 80x60 17 micron sensor in the $300 FLIR One cell phone attachment.
2# this does NOT come with any mounting options. Each adaptor, which is specific to the outside diameter of your objective bell (do not go by scope specs as some measure the lens some measure the bell) but each one is $200... IF you can find them in stock anywhere. Burris never stocks them. The magnified eyepiece attachment to use it as a handheld unit is also $200.
so even if this wasn't COMPLETLY worthless for anything other than finding ( not identifying) a heat source from 100yd and less.. it would still require an additional $200 to mount it onto a scope where it is even MORE USELESS because you cannot identify what you are looking at much less get shot placement.
And worse. When I contacted Burris about this they wouldn't tell me it its normal or if my unit is defective (like I said I think they purposefully installed a lesser sensor hoping nobody would notice). They instead wanted me to send it to them for a 8-10 WEEK service process. That timeline doesn't start until they have received and processed the return. No timeline was given on that process.
When I requested to pay a deposit and have a new unit sent to me in advance, I was told no.
I have a $800 Thor LT 160 that has 10x the image quality with the smallest sensor available. The $1300 Thor LT 320 makes this thing look like a happy meal toy. Not to mention those use STANDARD 30mm rings and often come with a mount. And 10hr batt life.
The advertised >2HR battery life is with the screen and using wifi to stream the image to another device. That's the only way I could get more than 1.5hr from the unit with the included batteries.
That comes to another issue... the App... is even more garbage. Insanely unstable and full of bugs. It disconnects after 10-90min and you have to force close the app, then remove and re add the device in the app to reconnect.
I could not find a way to turn off auto NUC however other than the 2 second screen pause it does absoutly nothing to clear up the image. The only way to recalibrate the sensor is to turn the unit off put the cap back on then turn it back on.
The app also only uses about 40% of your screen to show the image. The rest is taken up by whitespace and there is no full screen option.
For a $3000 piece of hardware id expect it to at least include the advertised hardware and have decent customer service.
If you google the 400X300 12μm Vox thermal sensor the mfg page will come up with sample images of what the picture would look like if Burris was actually using that sensor. They clearly are not.
