Huskerhunter68's Review of Burris Fullfield E1 4.5-14x42mm 1in Tube Second Focal Plane (SFP) Rifle Scope

I bought this scope last year and mounted it on a rifle that I later traded. It mounted fine, and shot “ok”, but I decided to keep it to try on my new rifle...a Browning He!!’s Canyon in 6.5 Creedmore. While mounting it I noticed the tube appeared to be crushed where the rings had been. I contacted Burris and they had me send it in for repairs, which ended up in a fast replacement scope in about a week. Burris does have Great Customer Service! After mounting scope number two and going to the range, it shot really well...easy to zero, nice tight group. But, to my disappointment the Side Focus knob would not turn...stuck at 100yds. Since Deer Season was quickly approaching I decided to hang onto it until things finished. Once again I contacted Burris and they said to send it back for repairs. After taking it off my rifle to box it up for shipping I noticed that once again the tube appears to be slightly crushed. Let me say that I have never had any other brand of scope do this. This was more than a dimple from the rings. Not sure if that caused the problem with the Side Focus, or I just didn’t notice it before I mounted it. I know by now many of you are thinking it was simply just over torqued...it was not. The first one was mounted by a professional gunsmith on a Savage with different rings. I decided to mount the second one myself. I used DNZ mounts, (which I highly recommend) and I followed all specs for torque from Burris. I will say the scope is very nice otherwise. I love the reticle and the clarity is amazing...and for the price you pay, you would have to spend hundreds more to get the same features. So I am waiting on my scope to return, and deciding if I even want to mount it for another try or just sell it and go with another brand. I do believe this particular model is made in the Philippines...as many scopes are these days. If you buy this you will probably love it...but I don’t know if I could really recommend it after the problems I have had. maybe I just got a bad one, or two. Burris does have a full lifetime warranty...if you ever need to use it like I did...twice.
Pros:
  • Price, reticle, clear
Cons:
  • Tube strength, side focus not working
Best Used for:
  • hunting, target shooting
