Safetynick's Review of Bushnell 10x42 Fusion 1600 ARC Laser Rangefinder Binocular

In a recent Caribou hunt to northern Quebec, the binocular and rangefinder functions were put to the test in extreme cold weather conditions. My hunting partner has a really expensive($2,600+) rangefinder/binocular, so we did several side by side tests.

The Bushnell measured exactly the same distances, which for me is one of the critical features. Both units were a little sluggish in the cold (-22c), and I was having difficulty seeing the readout on the Bushnell's. The conditions were overcast skies with very flat light and snow, snow and more snow.

The optics were not as bright on the Bushnell's but I paid $800 for mine and they are the best that I can afford. To me the brightness is something that was marginal and not worth the extra money but it would really be nice to have a brighter readout as I was having a hard time reading the display.

I would definitely recommend this unit for those with a limited budget as it performed just about as well as a unit that is out of my price range. you just have to be a little more patient in really bright conditions.

Finally, you really need to take the time to pair the rangefinder with your gun. Failing to do so will mean that you will miss an awful lot. Take into consideration elevation and air density. The range finder will not correct for these variable and you need to know what they are in order to insure you hit your target at long range.
Pros:
  • accuracy
  • Value for money
  • reliability
  • lite weight
Cons:
  • hard to read display with bright background
  • sluggish in the extreme cold
Best Used for:
  • Hunting and long range shooting
