Based on early gen0 russian tubes, these devices are simple and effective. However they do require substantial ambient light and/or an ir source to see clearly.
The magnification is a good compromise for night use (range of 100-200 yards) and is perfect for use on a boat scanning shorelines for a mooring, or searching for trespassers on your open fields)
Not recommended for anything tactical, or short range due to it's cumbersome size, no mount, loud operation, and that the buttons have to be held down to operate.
Runs on standard 9v with good battery life (4+ hours?)
Pros: Cheap, smart amount of magnification
Cons: poor image quality, loud, must hold buttons down
