Legacy Reviewer's Review of Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30x5 Rifle Scope w/ RainGuard
The Elite 6500 4.5-30 x 50mm MilDot scope is my first foray into the field of high powered optics, which I mounted to my Springfield Armory M1A Loaded. The scope mount and rings are a Basset Machines Low Profile Mount and EGW 30mm Practical Aluminum Scope Rings.
This scope is very clear and bright throughout the magnification range (my spotter commented how the clarity allowed him to see the individual grass blades @ 100 yds. and is comparable to his Zeiss scope).
I got on paper and battle sight zeroed the scope and rifle within 10 rounds using Federal Ammunition 7.62mm 168 gr OTM ammo within 15 minutes of range time and without boresighting(Yes, that is a long time because this ammo is expensive and I'm a cheap amateur shooter). In addition, the following shots were consistent in the same area of the target. The turrets controls are easy yet tactilely noticeable to adjust. The huge turrets allow windage and elevation adjustments to be very dependable and quick. You can also reset the dial turrets to zero with the provided Allen/Hex wrench after zeroing the scope. The parallax and eye relief, which is very generous, takes a little time to acclimate to; but this is very manageable and will be worth it once the shooter learns to adjust and customize it to the individual's unique physical attributes.
The one thing I have issue with is the weight. I would also recommend that Bushnell add flip up covers, pronounce the markings of the scope brighter, and work on a low maintenance illuminated reticle to this already terrific product. These are not serious issues or a knock on this product, but I have to complain about something. You can't let Bushnell or anybody completely off the hook can you? Gives them a reason for living: Satisfy you, the customer.
I would highly recommend this scope. This is after about a month of contemplating and reviewing similar products of the competition through on line researching of reviews and comments. This is my first high powered scope and I managed to obtain accuracy rather quickly due to it's clarity and user friendly characteristics (ACE). You can also use the Mil-Dot reticle to range your target if you know the target's size. Speak about versatility and based on my spotter's comments, you could also use it to see how your neighbor's lawn compares to yours from the front porch (scope only and w/o the firearm, of course)!
However, I would say the biggest selling point of the Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30x50mm Mil-Dot scope is the cost to benefit equation: You get a QUALITY scope that COSTS LESS, and is comparable to or BETTER than the competition.
Enjoy and Happy Shooting,

Pros: ACE: Accuracy, Clarity, and Easy.
Cons: Weight
