Not a do all hunting scope - Bushnell Elite Tactical Hunter Rifle Scope 3-12x44

To preface this review, I own FFP scopes and understand the limitations at low magnification. The LRHS is an extremely well built scope with good glass and edge to edge clarity. The turrets are well thought out as is the objective bell size and magnification range for hunting purposes. I bought this scope sight unseen for the purpose of hunting with it. The problems with it is at the lower magnification ranges. 3X is completely useless and 4X magnification is marginal in low light hunting situations. The reticle disappears in low light dusk and dawn scenarios at low magnification with woodland backgrounds. I had hoped that this scope with a modest variable range of 3x-12x would have a useable crosshair thickness at the 3x-4x range for a FFP scope. At 6x-12X, this scope is about perfect and for a function specific hunting scope for powerline easements and beanfields it would be hard to beat but it is not a do-all hunting scope that a variable 3x-12x should be. On an overcast day 1/2 hour before sunrise or after sunset, you would be handicapped with the FFP low magnification range on this scope. This is a 70% tactical/target scope best used at 12X magnification and 30% a hunting scope that has limitations as an all around hunting scope.
