I bought this to stop having to need to use the US Army issue binoculars. While those are of excellent quality and have a ranging reticle in them they are quite large and heavy. This monocular gives me the same range estimation capability in a fraction of the size and weight. While one could argue that you can have a laser range finder do the same, more conveniently than mil for math. However, I appreciate the lack of batteries.
Pros:
- Size, simplicity, Mil-dot reticle
Cons:
- FOV - but only relative to full size binos
Best Used for:
- Backup to a full size spotting scope / keeping with you as a primary optic in a go-bag
