Legacy Reviewer's Review of Bushnell Yardage Pro 4-12x42 BDC Laser Rangefinder Rifle Scope 204124

I am a seasoned varmint hunter, mostly prairie dogs. I have a significant number of high end Leupold and Nightforce scopes on my prairie dog rifles. Some of my friends call me a scope snob. I also use a Lica Geovid rangefinder on the dogtown and twist knobs to set the range into the scope. I don't always have a spotter to use the Geovid and liked the idea of a rangefinder built into the scope. I started looking at features and price and decided to buy the Bushnell. I did not expect it to be comperable in optics to the Leupolds and Nightforces. This scope with a rangefinder built in costs less than most of the other scopes I own. I am realistic enough to know that you get what you pay for especially in optices. I chose the Bushnell over the comparably priced Nikon becaues of the BDC feature. The Bushnell comes with several knobs that work with many loads and even a knob you can mark for your load if one of the others doesn't fit.
I couldn't quite bring myself to go for the Ziess or other high end rangefinder scopes becaue the price is five or six times the cost of the Bushnell. Anyway I bought the Bushnell. When I went to mount it, I really didn't like the mounting system the provided and you must use their system or nothing. I struggled with the mounting set up and finally got it mounted to my satisfaction. Off to the range.
I sighted in the sope noting that the optics were inferior to what I was used to but not bad at all for the price of the scope. The optics were acceptable.
I also found that I couldn't get the elevation adjustment to go low enough to set the bullet impact at center of target at 100 yds on my 22 BR. I remembered that I had a 20 MOA base on the rifle and that was no doubt why. This is the only scope I have ever had that problem with. A zero MOA base cures the problem. I went to set the elevation and windage knob to zero and I had to completly remove the screw that holds the knob in place. A minor point but why didn't they make it where you loosen the screw and set the knob at zero without completly removing th screw?. I,of course, dropped the screw and knob and had to funble with it to get it set. Off to the dog town. It preformed OK on the dogtown. It would not range prairie dogs past 500 meters and the ranging function seemed very slow to me. It is also a little difficult to read the range display in the bright light of the dogtown. I struggled through these concerns and learned to deal with them.
Bottom line is I use the scope when my spotter is not available because the known range helps my hit ratio considerably but it is not a "go to" scope if I have someone to work the Geovid and feed me rnage info.
Again I shoot with 60 plus year old eyes and am used to top of the line optics. Someone with good eyes and used to Bushnell quality optics would likely find the optical quality of this scope to be very good.
Pros: price and bdc feature
Cons: mounting system
