Vortex Diamondback HP 3-12x42mm - great scope

Written on Dec 04, 2017

Based on online reviews, I decided to buy this scope. It is my first Vortex product, but will not be my last. I found it exactly as the vast majority of other reviewers had, a quality scope and excellent value. I mounted it on a Tikka T3 Lite in .30-06 that had had another scope of similar value installed. The Vortex was an immediately noticeable upgrade. I really like the eye relief, excellent clarity and the design of the reticle. The adjustments were easy to use. I ran a 6 inch "box drill" to check for repeatability, and ended up exactly at my initial zero. I used it during this year's deer season, including one very rainy day and it performed flawlessly. Bottom line, an excellent scope for the price. The only way I see to get a better rifle scope is to pay a lot more money. I also bought the Vortex front lens cover, but found it to be expensive and unnecessarily heavy. I much prefer cheaper Butler Creek covers, although the Vortex cover is clearly more durable.

Great scope

Written on Jun 30, 2017

I currently own 4 different Burris Fullfield II scopes. I find them to be of excellent optical quality and I have never had any issues with fogging or the like, even in the wettest of weather. I particularly like the simplicity of their Ballistic Plex reticle. If you read the "professional" on-line reviews, this is one of the highest rated scopes in its price range. You might want to spend more for a scope if you plant to shoot a 500 yards or more, like some guys claim in the magazines, but for most of us, 300 yards is plenty far to be shooting at deer (my longest deer kill is a measured 356 with a 3-9 Burris Fullfield II on a .270 Win.). For us "normal" deer hunters, this scope is all you really need or want. Why spend more money?
