Not much to say here, its a vortex cantilever mount, it simply works. On a positive note, I actually like this mount better than my more expensive Nightforce cantilever. The reason being is the vortex has 4 recessed bolts for mounting to the rail, appose to 2x big hand nuts that are harder to torque to spec. I have not had any zero issues or bolts coming loose thus far, I own a number of these I just wish they were cheaper for what they are.
I bought this upper because I have been hearing a lot of good things about the accuracy of Larue products. Historically I have owned cheap low grade uppers/barrels from companies like PSA & Troy. My skill level has increased to the point where I can outshoot a cheap AR, which was really getting frustrating especially at 300 yards. The price may be a little high on this product, but the workmanship and accuracy is second to none. I placed this upper on a Spikes lower and added a strike eagle 1-8x SFP scope. I cleaned the barrel thoroughly, then dried it and went strait to the range. It only took me 3-5 shots to sight in my scope. From there I went on to shoot some 3 & 5 shot groups. For this test I opted to use Federal Sierra Match King HPBT 69gr ammo. My best 3 shot group was a little under 1/2 inch moa, and my 5 shot groups were coming in between .5 to .75 MOA. I should also note it was 32F outside at the time, my hands were freezing, 10mph crosswind, just not ideal conditions. I did not perform any special break-in procedures, I would bet my groupings will get a little tighter once I have a few more rounds down the barrel, but for out of the box I am very happy so far. Also keep in mind the Streak Eagle 1-8 only has 1/2 moa adjustments. For the money you will not find a better scope than this. This barrel has a 1:8 twist which I think is the perfect twist, I am not a fan of 1:7 because in my experience it cannot stabilize a 55gr bullet. This was my next test. I proceeded to
I own 4 of these scopes, 2 of which are the OPMOD 1-8X SFP, I also own the 1-8X FFP, and another regular 1-8X SFP. My Favorite is the 1-8X OPMOD version, cant beat the look & color. I keep coming back for more because this scope has very clear optics. I own a Nightforce NX8 and I prefer the clarity of the strike eagle, call me nuts but I am just not that impressed by Nightforce, for my money I am sticking with Vortex. I have this OPMOD strike eagle on a match grade AR15 and I am able to achieve repeatable 1/2 inch MOA groups at 100 yards, many groups coming in under 1/2 MOA. Holds it zero, was easy to level, great in low light even. At 1X power the eye relief is great for tactical shooting. I have red dots, prism scopes, and everything else in-between. I feel the Strike Eagle at 1x power gives me faster and easier target acquisition than both my prism and red dots. Bonus here being you can crank it up to 8X power for reliable 300yd shots. My local range has a 300yd lane and 8X power is perfect for that, hence I would not recommend the 1-6x power, just get the 1-8X. The drop compensator works well with both 556 and 308, simply holdover and you are good to go. If you want or need 1 optic to rule them all for your battle or end of the world rifle, this would be my pick. For those of you still confused or on the fence about FFP vs SFP, I'll give you this. I prefer the SFP for any type of semi-automatic rifle. In 1x power the reticle on the FFP is just to small, you will not like
