For my deer feeder setup, I have a moultrie quick lock 30 gallon feeder (tripod style). The raccoons have figured out several ways to get to the food on the spinner after trying barbed truss brackets on the legs, vaseline rubbed onto the legs, chicken wire, etc. I've spent quite a bit of time trying those ideas to keep the raccoons off the feeder, so I found this zapper that works with another brand of feeder. It is a lot cheaper than a solar powered electric fence unit, and it only requires 6 volts to operate. I have a solar panel on my feeder that powers the timer (that comes on the moultrie feeders) and the two leads inside the panel have alligator clips that connect into the power supply. I bought a small rechargeable battery to go inside the panel, with the zapper (for extra power in case the few raccoons would drain the solar panel's internal battery) and hooked up one blue (powered) wire to the chicken wire I placed around the feed dispenser. The other blue wire I taped and kept inside the panel. I accidentally touched the wire when I closed the panel, and it has plenty of zap to keep large animals off of it! The first night I received a few photos from my cell cam (property is an hour away from home) and got to see the first raccoon climb the leg of the feeder, and the next photo showed it falling to the ground with its hair poofed up running away. The three raccoons now eat what is dispensed from the feeder and leave without bothering it.
