Incorrect forward mounting scew depth

Written on Nov 18, 2020

I have EGW bases on a half-dozen of my rifles and have never had a single problem, until now.

Due to how the barrel mounts into the receiver on the x-bolt, the forward 2 scope base holes don't go as deep as the rest since they bottom out on the barrel threads. EGW tried to accommodate for this by not drilling the base as deep for those 2 holes, problem is they way over corrected.

When you get the base mocked up with all the screws started then start torquing down, everything is going well until you get to those front two screws. Due to the shallower mounting holes in the base, the front two screws are only holding on to about a thread - enough to tell you are started and not cross threaded but that's about it. At about 10 in/lb the screws rip that top thread out of the receiver.

I ended up having to spend time fixing what was left of the damaged threads in the receiver before I could do anything else. Then I had to go scouring the parts bin for a set of screws roughly 0.045" longer than what was supplied with the base, so I could get the front two torqed to spec along with the rest of the base.

Really disappointing that a $70 base doesn't come tapped to proper depth or with two slightly longer screws to complete the set.

Not as light as advertised

Written on Feb 07, 2017

Out of the box the trigger didn't feel all that amazing, so I decided to do some proper testing with a Lyman digital gauge, which I verified on other triggers to be consistent and accurate. The trigger I received broke nowhere near the advertised 2 3/4lbs with the adjustment screw fully backed off. With the trigger assembly completely loose the best it ever averaged 3lbs 6oz, once installed in a lower with the tension screws set and anti-walk pin kit torqued to spec the average break was 3lbs 10oz. The consistency was also pretty poor, with min to max variation in 10 test sets being as high as 6oz. It is a good looking trigger that looks very well manufactured, also there is very little creep and the reset is extremely short - but it just couldn't come close to the advertised break weight and was extremely inconsistent compared to AR / factory triggers I have from other manufacturers. I was really hoping that this would be an amazing trigger, but the reality just couldn't live up to the hype or cost and the manufacturer couldn't provide any recommendations no did they offer a replacement so I'm returning it.
