We all know which makes great optics, for the most part they are probably the most battle tested non magnified optic in history, with the exception of the aimpoint. Without a doubt EOTech is your best bet if you want it use a magnifier as your dot doesn’t expand like a standard Reddot. Imagine a 4moa red dot with a 3x magnifier you end up with a 7moa dot. Kinda hard to be precise at 100 yards with a 7moa dot. Eotech sights do not do that when magnified. I don’t know why I’m not dr science I just know they don’t ;). That being said they haven’t done much with the reticle, just an outer circle with 4 hash marks and your primary 1moa aiming dot. It works and when you zero at 50 you can use the lower vertical hash mark to adjust your hold over for 7 yard engagements. But lining up the hash mark and bottom of the circle can be tricky and confusing. Enter the OPMOD team they asked EOTech to change up the reticle where you have two half circles with the center dot and then for the 7 yard zero they added a chevron… nothing confusing about that. Put the tip of the chevron on what you want to hit and well let’s just say it works. The reticle looks like a hud they would use on a fighter jet or the x-wing. So it looks cool, its functional, and if you have 3 eotechs like me you don’t get confused as to wat rifle your shooting ;)
Having the capability to hit efficiently pit to 600 yards is very helpful. Adding a magnifier to this setup is really a game changer I was making steel ring at 4-500 yards with every shot with cheap ammo and 10.5” barrel…. This will get you into Trijicon ACOG territory of accuracy and ranging capabilities.
So the biggest benefit of this new design is that you don’t have to have a key to adjust your front sight height… also it looks better and is more contoured than the previous model… it’s Magpul so it’s already fantastic.
