A lot of value for the money

Written on Jun 03, 2020

Was interested in the BDC for popping hogs at around 300 meters with a bolt-action .308 so traded out a perfectly good Redfield for the Vortex Crossfire II. Though pretty darn economical this scope is as clear, and seems similar in overall quality, to quite a few scopes in the inventory that cost considerably more. The BDC works fine and the written instructions provide a starting point but some trial and error is required and can change with different loads but that is to be expected. It's more convenient than dialing in range differences and probably requires less practice but it's not "automatic" and does require some work. Very forgiving and large eye relief range is real and a very nice feature. If you are used putting your eyeball to the glass on the highest powers of variable scopes you're in for a pleasant surprise.

A must for sighting in IR night vision

Written on Jun 03, 2020

When sighting in infra-red night vision scopes it very quickly becomes apparent that a target with a black background or bullseye is necessary as light colored targets are generally harder to see well. This fits the bill nicely and stands out well during daytime target shooting with an IR scoped rifle.

More durable

Written on Jun 03, 2020

I've used a competitive brand of these and the Walkers are proving to be more durable. Obviously you do not want to stress them by stretching them too wide but once in a while it just happens accidentally. These are a bit more forgiving and don't snap in half quite so easily. Fine for rimfire use I still generally opt for muffs otherwise.
