KFenrir's Review of Canik Extended Mag Releases

My first gun was a TP9SFX. I got extremely used to the feel of the extended mag release so I've been wanting one for my CC pistol, a TP9SF Elite. It's the same exact part with the 3 different sizes (I use the small). Unfortunately it doesn't come with instructions on the install and I could only find one video online for the SFX. After an hour of tampering, and a sore finger, I figured out and you only need a small set of needle nose pliers, or if you have the kind that curve down it might be even easier. There is a spring/pin holding the release in place that also resets it when you let off the button. It sits in a little channel or canyon. Use pliers to pull this pin which looks like a loop on a bow, and hold on tight because it likes to fly. Once out, slide the release out and set aside along with the pin. Examine the release. There is an oval shaped hole and a normal round one, with the oval shape being at the back of the release and towards your dominate hand (if you're reversing it for left handed use flip the release over and this still applies). The pin will have a long end with a curve and a short straight end. Take your pliers and drop the long curved end into the oval hole on the release. Pull the pin out enough for the short side to be level with the top of the release/bottom of the channel and move the release out until the small hole is barely visible at the edge of the inside of magazine well. The long end will act as a pivot/lever from this point on. Now you'll take your pliers and twist the pin towards the short end and push it "down" until it snaps into the channel. Use your finger to hold the pin in place, and hold it tight. then using the pliers again, push down on the head of the pin (I held it in the pliers) and it'll snap into place into the release, so long as the round hole lines up properly. It might take a few tries, and a little finesse. The method I found online did not work for my SF Elite and might be suited to the full size SFX, but left me with a bruised finger tip. This was a lot faster and seemed to be how it was supposed to be done. Enjoy your new mag release.

  • More comfortable and better ergonomics
