Great magnifier - Carson DeskBrite 200 Magnifier Loupe Desk Lamp w/ Spot Lens

It works great. The unit is light and well balanced so that when you move the arm around, it will not fall over too easily. Magnification is good. A 2.5x would probably have been better for the main lens but with a unit like this, you want a large diameter lens without "too much" magnification in order to see a good amount of space on the object you're looking at and the "spot lens" with 5x works well in a pinch when you need greater detail. I prefer to use the unit with batteries - the cord can get in the way. Battery life has run over 24 hours of use and still going strong (standard alkaline cells). The LED doesn't draw a ton of juice so the batteries will have nice run time. The only thing I would have different in an ideal world would be to have stronger materials (metal base, in particular) and a brighter LED. But both of those would raise the cost. For the money, this is a very good value. If you're used to the desk mounted magnifiers with swing arms and large (5" and larger) lenses, you will probably not like this unit that much. But where space is a premium and portability is desired, you'd be hard pressed to find a unit better than the Carson DeskBrite200 in the mid $20s. Go for it!
