Rob's Review of Celestron Granite 9x33 Binoculars

Took a chance on these. Liked the 9x33 build. More power than an 8x32, but more aperture and light than a 10x32. They seemed to have the all best optic components: ED glass, Bak-4 prisms, dielectric mirror coatings.. I can tell you, it shows in the view. I tested them against two of my most dependable 10 powers. A Bushnell Legend HD 10x42 and my Zeiss Conquest 10x30. The Granite optics out shined even these two favorites. The colors are very vivid and details just jump out. Can definitely tell the difference, the picture is definitely a notch above both the Legends and the Conquest.

These are too heavy to lug around as a mere compact, so don't buy them if you need a lightweight tiny binoculars. But, their natural ergonomics more than make up for their weight. They are a phenomenal mid size binocular. I've been around binoculars quite a bit and I seriously question the listed eye relief at 14.1mm. I don't understand how they came up with that number, but don't let it scare you away. They seem to function with much more eye relief than just 14mm.

The focus knob is a pleasure to use. Very smooth and is just the right "speed". The diopter is a little too easy to move for my tastes. I'm not big on basing my reviews on the inexpensive accessories that do or do not come with the main purchase. However, in this care, these granites happen to come with very functional extras, ...a decent case,a neck strap, a halter, lens covers that function and last but not least, a $40 rebate. All in all, for less than $300 you get a very sharp, bright and detailed view in a solid, (if slightly heavy) midsize pair.
