Mark D's Review of CMMG, Inc Barrel Sub-Assemblyy, 22LR, 16in

I'll start out by saying I did not have high expectations for the accuracy of this barrel. I wanted to build a dedicated 22LR upper for some fun plinking and some AR rifle mechanics practice without having to spend the money on .223/5.56 ammo. Also, our range doesn't allow shooting steel at less than 50 yards with rifle ammo so using the tactical shooting bay with an AR means you need to shoot another type of ammo. Now most of this type of shooting doesn't require pin point accuracy so it doesn't bother me. Just want anyone purchasing this barrel to know it'll probably shoot at best 1 MOA at 25 yards. The best I've gotten out of it has been about 2 MOA at 25 yards with both CCI Mini Mag and CCI AR Tactical Ammo. I've gone through about 400 rounds so far and that's been pretty consistent. I can hit a silhouette target at 100 yards but it isn't in consistent hit zones (this is shooting from a bench with a bag). I am using the CMMG Bolt with the BoreBuddy collar incase you were curious. I'll update this review later if I find better ammo or the barrel gets better over time.

One other little annoyance is the thickness of the barrel flange. It's slightly thicker than standard AR Barrel so the barrel nut doesn't seat as closely to the receiver. Not a functional issue but it creates maybe a 1/8" gap in the handguard to receiver fitment.

Overall, definitely a lot of fun to have and I enjoy it. Just wish it was a tad better so I could go from 15-100 yards with it.

  • Price
  • easy installation
Cons:
  • Not very accurate
  • fitment isn't the best
