Matt's Review of Cobra Professional Hinge Release

This is my second hinge, my first being a Tru-Fire Sear. I wanted something that wouldn’t change my anchor point or draw length coming from the Cobra Harvester thumb release. This sits in the fingers even better than the Harvester, despite having the same (allegedly) contour in the finger bedding, and has very nice heft to it. The thumb peg sits a little further out compared to the Tru-fire, which is what I was hoping for, and so I can better use the thumb peg as a safety. But the best thing about the Cobra Professional is how smooth the release is; it’s incredible. I think they’re on to something with that roller sear. I have a wrist strap (index finger) release with a roller sear, and I hate it. In that one, the roller precludes a clean trigger break; you literally feel it roll off and it’s super annoying to me. Not the case with the Cobra. While I wouldn’t characterize the break as “crisp,” it is definitely extremely clean/instantaneous and very satisfying. Call it a “soft” yet clean break, and after a few shots becomes very addicting. The feel of the release in the fingers is also very addicting after a few shots, unlike my Tru-fire despite also being comfortable. The Tru-fire has a more traditional sear (hence the name?) but its release is so crisp as to seem harsh. I’m shocked that the Cobra Professional doesn’t have loads of attention and review videos on YouTube. It is an enormous improvement over their Harvester thumb button (which is actually surprisingly good, but a bit overpriced), and I would reckon competitive with any other high end hinge release. The spring-loaded head centering and relatively large hook are icing on the cake. Those features make it suitable for hunting in my opinion, though I’d still prefer a thumb button for that. The only likely issue with it for some folks is that while adjustment is super simple, it can’t go as “hot” as other releases. That being said, there’s still room to go hotter after I set it where I like it, just not much. There’s also no click, which I had to get used to, but it’s a non-issue for me now. I would strongly recommend this to anyone. Don’t be afraid because Cobra’s not one of the main brands, this release is excellent!
