I explored every rating I could find before making my first of two purchases of this model. Aside from the You tube Videos showing "smashing CINDER BLOCKS/WATERMELONS/WOODEN PALLETS/SO MUCH MORE", I was impressed with reviewers who addressed the ordinary excellence of the cane for purposes of walking on concrete; gravel; dirt; even mud. More than one "formal reviewing website" assigned this as a "NO. 1 PICK/BEST BUY".
I bought my first one from an ebay vendor after Black Friday for $70 (free shipping). I liked it A LOT: (a) multiple layers of fiberglass; (b) SCREW ON, firmly fixed SOLID ALUMINUM HEAD; (c) nearly 38" (I'm 6', I wanted a taller than usual cane}; d) nearly 1# weight. Before I bought these, I used blackswiftsticks.com units (one "lightweight" 4.5 oz) and one, heavier ("mace head" 8.5 oz)--good canes, but they gave me inadequate confidence in their merit as defensive tools. Other "wooding walking sticks and canes" I found, lacking--they seemed to say: "Old man here, weak, easy victim".
Yes, the one pound is a little harder to use--but it's got some serious HEFT and I have a sense of confidence as I walk in urban areas.
SO, since I liked my first one so much, I decided to buy a second one. OP had (and still has) the lowest price. So about 10 days ago I paid $51.49 (free shipping > $50).
