Teddy's Review of Condition 1 40in. Hard Sided AR-15 Carrying Case
I purchased this case for an ArmaLite AR-15 with an A2(fixed)stock, carry handle upper, and a 20" barrel with no flash hider or muzzle break. Total rifle length is 38".
The case's interior dimensions are 39" length, 8" at the handle, 8 7/8" at the latches, and 9 1/4" overall width. The overall height/thickness of the case is on the skinny side, however, and the A2 stock is significantly thicker than a collapsible stock, so it does require some finagling, but it works. It's hard to get an accurate interior measurement, but the exterior dimension is a max of 3 1/4". It's nice and compact, as the carry handle doesn't protrude above the case, but limits your storage with accessories attached. I wanted a case that was as small as possible, yet still left the rifle completely operational.
I also have a flattop upper receiver with a 16" barrel with A2 flash hider and there's no problem there.
The only thing keeping this from 5 stars is the case thickness. If you have thick optics,(I have a 3x9-50mm rifle scope that's too thick to confidently shoehorn in there) or a quad rail forend with side covers or side mounted optics, the shallowness may be an issue.
All in all, this is a great case for the money. An economical way to keep the dust and dirt off of your rifle, and carrying it to the range or a hunting trip. Even with locks in all four holes, it won't stop a determined teenager or a TSA ramp rat... For home defense, you can store it with a 10, 15, possibly 20 round magazine in the well, and low profile optics, and have your rifle in condition 1 right out of the case.
For the price this is a great case given the limitations I've described. Would purchase again.
