Mike's Review of Condor Outdoor Defender Plate Carrier
This is not a small, lightweight, minimalist Plate Carrier. This is not what you grab in the middle of the night to slip on so you have basic vital area protection when you hear a threat and you need to move quickly. This is not what you grab when you expect to have to travel distances. This is heavily built and designed for a defensive standoff. There is a ton of space on this carrier. It easily holds 10x13 front and rear (I'm using .75 Level IV standalone plates) and 6x8 side plates (built in holders). It's wide enough to hold four (yes, four) M4 double mag pouches across the front, for a total of 240 rounds. On the top, I can hold a full 7x7 Admin pouch with flashlight holder OR a double pistol mag holder with flashlight holder beside it; with an HHR pouch beside it (and antenna loop back on the strap). On one side I have a large IFAK, with an additional gadget pouch. On the other side, I have another double M4 mag/ double pistol mag pouch, with a LMF-II sheath for easy draw. Total, Level IV plates front and rear, Level III plates sides sides, 330 rounds 5.56x45mm, 80 rounds 9x19mm, flashlight, IFAK, knife.
Fitwise, it's not the best fitting or comfortable carrier I have. It fits, but barely. I am 6'0", 180lbs with a 42" chest and 30" waist. At full compression, with straps fully drawn, I can wear this with the plates in the right places (high up, protecting the vitals, and the side plates just under my arms. This plate carrier stays in place too, and doesn't droop down to the point where it's being worn incorrectly. It's not the easiest thing to get on, but I noticed that if I leave everything velcro'ed and strapped except for one side, I can pick up the whole thing, drop it down on top of me, and the hook and loop on one side I can get secured in about five seconds from pick-up to secured and ready. If you're smaller than I am, this will probably not fit you well. If you're larger, this will probably be great for you.
For the price, and for its purpose, I like this carrier. There are better, more expensive ones that serve different purposes that I would use in other situations; but if I need to stand my ground for whatever reason, I feel like a tank in this thing.
