calbers's Review of Crimson Trace CT-RAD Pro Reflex 1x 5 MOA Red Dot Sight

Did you know there are modes for the CT RAD Pro? No? Well, don't blame yourself, because the User Guide makes no mention of it. Apparently, you can turn on/off the Auto function (controls shake awake and ambient brightness) by pressing the + for 5 seconds. When I received my sight, none of the Auto functions worked, so naturally, I assumed something was wrong. I contacted CT Customer Service & explained the issue. I was told to send the sight in, which I did. Shortly after, I was told that there was nothing wrong with the sight and enlightened to the Auto features.

WTF? CT sells a product without complete instructions, then when a customer has a problem, the most likely cause of that problem is overlooked, so said customer ends up wasting time and $$ shipping a sight back for a nonexistent problem that could have been avoided if 1) the user guide was complete, and 2) customer service had mentioned that there are modes on this sight that can be switched. Two unbelievably simple solutions, completely missed.

The sight itself is fine, as far as I can tell, although I have not been able to test it in actual use because I have had to deal with all this nonsense. So the jury is still out. But CT is a complete fail in their customer service. Don't get me wrong, Customer Service was nice, polite, and tried to be helpful. But this is pretty basic stuff... being able to switch modes is a primary function of the device and it is not mentioned in the User Guide? It's not brought up in CS communications? Fail.
Pros:
  • it works
  • Shake awake
  • Auto ambient brightness adjusment
Cons:
  • Incomplete instructions
  • Poor customer support from CT
