Blindman's Review of Crimson Trace RIG Rapid Illumination Grip

This item functions decently as a foregrip and as a light. I had to change my normal hold pattern to not cover the light, but that was an easy fix. On m-lok, it hold well and doesn't move. I wouldn't try it on a pic rail because it has to mount to a polymer adapter they include, but that just adds a piece to flex. The light has different brightness levels and gets decently bright.

Pros:
Solid mount (on m-lok)
-Light is adjustable, has a strobe function, and comes with a pressure pad if you choose to use it.
-Comes with two rechargeable batteries (usb charging and can be charged in the grip, or removed to charge. They are easily swapped)
-Saves space and weight vs adding a light to the side of the rail.

Cons:
-Light is a flood pattern and will not throw nearly as far as a dedicated light. I would personally like to see a tightened beam pattern even as a flood to take advantage of its output.
-Batteries are of their own design and therefor are proprietary.
-Because it's a flood, the barrel will cast a shadow unless you have a handguard that runs to nearly the end of the barrel.

Conclusion:
I like this a lot for what I purchased it for (smith and wesson m&p 15-22) as it keep weight down, acts as a foregrip, and works fine as a light. I would not elect to throw this on a normal ar simply due to the light pattern and throw range. I have it mounted as far forward as the rail will allow and would not mount it as far back as the picture for the item suggests. This would also work great on a pcc or anything used typically for under 100 yard shooting. If you come in knowing what to expect, it's a good purchase.
Pros:
  • Solid mount
  • Rechargable USB battery
  • saves weight
Cons:
  • Proprietary Battery
  • Flood Light
Best Used for:
  • PCC's
  • Close combat 100yds or closer
