If you look at most comments they are first impressions. I purchased 2, it looked like a great gift, something I would want myself is usually something that works for others. I don't have good hands @ 71 & Arthritic Thumbs. I knew people complained about the hard opening. I tried both knives, one was much easier to open. I picked the harder open one for myself because I would want to give the easier open as a gift. OUT OF THE BOX -My new toy was Difficult. A drop of oil and some use and now I can open it fairly efficently. The only hard part is holding the knife when opening it but complaining about the small elegant piece is complainig about what drew me to it.. I love it, it's just pretty, it comes sharp, particularly the pointy end. I used a Razor strop on it for grins, It will sharpen enough to shave your face. SIX STARS.
