BSigs's Review of DeSantis Criss-Cross Belt Leather Holster

For over ten years, I carried a J-frame S&W .357, IWB-Appendix Crossdraw and loved it (I am right handed).

Then, in 2020, I required inguinal hernia surgery on my left side in the area where my weapon was carried, so I switched to a DeSantis holster to carry that same J-frame S&W .357 OWB-strong side (on my right hip). I not only switched for the healing process but made it a permanent change to keep from irritating (and possibly weakening) the repaired area.

Well, in 2022, I required surgery again in that same spot and continued to carry on my right side.

With great success using the Desantis holster OWB-strong side, carrying every day and everywhere for over two years (at least 12 hours a day), I started to think about transitioning back to carrying crossdraw but switching to an OWB holster and wondered if DeSantis made such a holster.

Enter the Desantis Criss-Cross OWB holster. In full disclosure, I need to mention that I switched from carrying the J-frame S&W .357 to a S&W subcompact 9mm to gain the extra rounds (5 vs. 12) and that I love both weapons.

I’ve carried with this new Desantis Criss-Cross OWB holster for over three months now, at least 12 hours a day every day, and I can’t say enough good things about it.

Fair price, great quality, fantastic functionality, and it has even improved my DTFS (draw-to-first-shot) time by a quarter of a second (from 1.45 to 1.20 seconds – including clearing my shirt).

One important note for right-handed MEN carrying a weapon in this holster on the left side:

You will likely have to reverse the flow of your belt so that the double belt layer is situated on your right side. Because of how closely this holster snugs to your belt, if you have the double belt layer on your left side, it can easily cause the magazine release to be activated and your magazine could drop to the ground – at least that is what happened to me.

Having said that, I can assure any potential buyer that changing your belt direction is a small price to pay for such a great holster for the crossdraw position.

Thanks again, DeSantis – another great job with a beautiful holster!!!
