icebear's Review of Elite Survival Systems Assault Systems Rifle Cases

I have been using these cases since Assault Systems first started making them in the 90's. I still have my first one and it's still in great shape with just a little bit of wear. The cases are well made of very rugged materials, have a zipper flap to protect the gun, and are strong enough to isolate the contents from external shocks or being at the bottom of a pile. The magazine pockets are big enough tor the mags they are intended for (the two cases I bought from Optics Planet are for FAL's and the mags fit perfectly, just loose enough that they are easy to get out. The only difference between my older Assault Systems cases and the new ones is that the new ones have a better shoulder pad.

I ordered a Size 7 case (48") to be sure it was long enough for a full-length FAL with the long flash suppressor. A size 9 (45") would actually have been long enough. No problem; I just thought I'd pass that along.

Some reviewers have complained about the lack of tie-down straps. I don't like them in a shaped case like these. I used to have a case with tie-downs, and having them means you have to uncase the gun on a flat surface, whereas with a smooth interior, you can just open the zipper part way and pull the gun out. Tie-downs are great if you have a two-gun rectangular case, but are superfluous in this type of case.

My two cases were drop-shipped from the factory. One of them was OD, although I ordered black. I decided I liked having one of them a different color, so that was OK too. Optics Planet had the best price I could find on Assault Systems cases. Delivery was prompt.
