Beans's Review of Elite Survival Systems Sidewinder Slim Battle Belts
I like building my own belt systems because most sizes run outside of my meager needs or usage. I’m not a wannabe operator nor a mall ninja. I only hit the outdoor range and BLM land for pistol training. Some classes when I can afford it. I use 1.75 (small) ESS rigger belts or 2” (small) SafeLite Defense belts with varying size ESS pads. For inner belts used as the main stiffening component, inside the pad it’s always the SafeLite Defense (2” small). A 28-29” waist allows me to use a medium ESS slim pad with overlap or a small pad with a 1-1/2” gap. Either way works well. The ESS Slim pad checks most of the boxes for my applications. Safari-land 2” CUBL does not move at all once positioned on the SafeLite system. Because of the stiff double layer, I could only pass the belt through the 2” CUBL but the inner belt hook & loop attachment helped keep it in place too. The other system couples the 1.75” ESS riggers belt to the 2” SafeLite Defense inner belt so the 1.75” CUBL had a little play. 3/8”cam style buckle- nylon helmet straps seized that right up. Found on NiteRider lights helmet mounts. Polymer panels were used as stiffeners and take up slack when mounting gear directly to the ESS pad but the QLS holster mount and Bladetek mag pouches are mounted directly to the belt where it avoids using the ESS slim pad sleeves. The benchmade hook tool with it’s plastic sheath jam in almost perfectly. I run mine upside down close to buckle on the right. Some ESS slim pad slots may vary in size. I’m able to tuck in a small Esee fixed blade inside the small of back sleeve and mini rescue sheers on the opposite side without using the gear loops. I use those loops for a tourniquet. The loops are not spaced for molle gear clips so some customization may be required. I’m still and alway perfecting my belt system but run out of real-estate. I’ll be testing the mount of a certain brand AR-15 mag/ dump pouch soon. Just looking for placement. Thanks for reading. Trying to earn my discounts.
