wildcatgoal's Review of EOTech Vudu 1-10x28mm Rifle Scope w/ Daylight Bright Dot, First Focal Plane

If you're looking for great glass at a "reasonable" price (compared to the Vortex, for example)... this is a great choice. Unfortunately, I could not get over the reticle and the power adjustment/zoom mechanics. Regarding the reticle, the large circle I suspect was designed to help you bracket a target at 1x. The problem is, it doesn't do that well and, frankly, carrying that design over from red dot/holographic sites just doesn't work well in an FFP scope. Why? Well, when you zoom in, that large circle because even bigger, and bigger, and bigger until it disappears finally at 6x. You may find you're capable of ignoring it or you will never actually use 1.5-6x power (which isn't uncommon), but if you are in that range, the circle darkens the view, tricks your eye into not focusing on the center of the optic, and occupies FOV that you may need, especially in hunting scenarios. In short, it becomes HUGE and invasive. Regarding the power/zoom mechanics, the entire rear part of the scope turns in order to operate power adjustment, not just a power ring. The impact of this is: (1) you can't use a scope camera, (2) the diopter adjustment also moves power and you have to hold the power section to spin the diopter (usually this is set and forget, but NOT on a 1-10x LVPO), and (3) spinning it is actually distracting because there's moving scope body in front of your eye. I realize I sound ADD in this review, but precision competition shooting requires the LEAST amount of distractions, and only useful information. I will add that it's nice it has a locking elevation turret but and the daylight bright red dot is excellent (and only illuminates the center, not the useless large ring like the non-DLB version).
Pros:
  • Glass Quality
Cons:
  • Reticle Design
  • Power/Zoom Adjustment
Would Recommend: No
