Colbyntx's Review of Evolution Gun Works HD Thumb Safety Machined

I bought a Springfield Prodigy DS 4.25 about 9 months ago. I did take the gun fully apart before I ever end shot the thing. Cleaned & polished the ignition kit, all friction points and slide rails. Also adjusted the sear spring a bit. Went from a 6# trigger to 2.5# with stock parts. I am not a fan of ambi safety’s on 1911/2011’s. First being, with an ambi safety for concealed carry, I tend to bump the safety some how and at the end of the day, I unholster a 1911 that the safety has fallen at some point during the day. Second, ambi safety’s can be picky to adjust the tab that holds the two halves together. Third, the safety felt soooo mushy and it drove me nuts! I have had ambi safeties walk out on a long shooting session. I have about 10,000 rounds on this gun so far. The only malfunction was a failure to go into full battery one time. The kicker is, my daughter was shooting. I went with this EGW single side safety because it’s machines out of a solid piece of steel compared to the MIM safety that comes with the gun. This does require fitting to get in the firearm. If you’re not competent working on 1911’s, you will need a gunsmith to install. I had to file about a 1/4 of the safety lug to fit mine. I now have a beautiful looking, slightly larger right side safety paddle on the right side only. It is so crisp & precise! Feels so much more solid than the original. I would recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade their safety to a single side.
