Dave's Review of Explore Scientific 92 Degree Series Long Eye Relief Eyepiece
Bought this eyepiece many days ago but haven't have it outside on a good night until now. This eyepiece is
sharp and well corrected when used with my 12" dob and Paracorr. The quality of the view is as good to my
eyes as my TV Ethos 13. I suspect it will take over from the E13 as my most used eyepiece. The view is different from other 100 degree class eyepieces in that you don't have to turn your head from side to side
to take in the entire field...it is all there looking straight ahead in one huge field. The 21mm eye relief
and huge eye lens help make this possible. The eyelens is 44mm in diameter as compared to 34mm in my next biggest, the Pentax XW's which are huge in their own right. The impact of the view is powerful, more powerful
than other the other 100 degree eyepieces (TV Ethos, Explore Scientific, and Lunt) I own.
On the downside, this thing weighs a ton and needs a good focuser to handle it. Counter weights may be
required as well. I should mention I used this eyepiece with the eyecup in both the up and down position
and liked it both ways...I haven't picked a favorite position yet. It was extremely easy to hold the exit
pupil both ways. I am so happy with it so far.
