DB's Review of Watchtower Firearms Gun Builder Kit

There's nothing special about this lower parts kit. It's basically the same as a CMMG or any standard LPK with the exception of the ambidextrous safety selector. You're basically paying 1.5-2x the price of a standard LPK for the ambi safety upgrade. Ironically, the safety was the only problematic part of the kit. The recess within the shaft of the safety selector is shallow where the detent engages in the "safe" and "fire" positions. There is no tactile click when switching from one position to the other. It actually felt like it was grinding and had several small clicks when changing from one position to the other. I found that the selector would prematurely switch from a "safe" to "fire" position very easily before the detent was fully engaged. More concerning, it lacks a tactile or audible click when returning to a "safe" position. With safe gun practices, this likely would not cause any issues; however, it required for me to give much more attention to the position of the selector before and after running the gun. It feels like the safety/fire selection could switch easily with little force (if the gun rubbed or bumped against something) and this could be extremely dangerous. I actually switched back to the unilateral safety selector in my CMMG LPK because the recesses in the shaft are deeper, there's a tactile click, and it takes an intentional force to change its positions. The price of the F-1 kit is certainly not justifiable for the lack of quality control. Unfortunately, my F-1 kit is beyond the return window for Optics Planet but I'm hoping no one else makes the mistake of buying it because there are much safer options for less.
