Innovative Upper

by Matt S., Gear Expert from IL, United States Written on December 10, 2019
Really well built upper with an innovative design.

Piston reliability combined with super easy barrel swaps (either for caliber or length) as well as being an ambi upper (can setup ejection port for left or right side) make this a very versatile upper.

You also do not need a buffer assembly so you can setup the lower with a low profile folder compared to most ARs.

This upper is priced in the same bracket as other top tier piston or DI uppers but it offers a ton of value.

I am a fan of innovative engineering which is why this upper caught my eye but it is also useful to have for when my lefty friends want to borrow a rifle or if I want to run 7.62x39

Wish they would offer some more barrel options for it.
Most Helpful Positive Review An amazing upper for you AR
To be fair I haven't used this a ton, but I have near a thousand rounds through it. I have been super impressed by its reliability. I have yet to have a single malfunction, which is amazing to me. It looks a little off compared to a standard AR up, but the ergonomics hold up. It is more comfortable ...

Most Helpful Negative Review Absolute waste of money, poor quality, cheap parts. Looks cool though!
It does not fit properly (Requires hammering the lower pins into the upper in order to fit or filing in contact surfaces). In other words it's out of spec. Noticeable gap between the lower and upper after installation (If you somehow get those pins in the upper). Called their customer service dep an...

Arak21 bullpup'd n good to go!

by Sev, Verified Owner from OH, United States Written on August 28, 2025
The fact that you can have this become a bullpup alongside an A3 Industries Triad chasis system AND can shoot 7.62x39 pleases me to no end. Smooth operation, fine cycling, a stiff but solid gas block adjustment, and it shoots accurate enough to notice the difference between this and an Ak (barrel wobble after first shot or two if semi-sustained firing...if ya know *shrug*) - the way the barrel sits in the overall design lends to that not occuring. A tad heavy, but what do ya expect from a piston monolithic upper receiever? Finish is solid and Faxon's barrels are superb.

Added a Swampfox 3x prism along with some micro Troy's on a picatinny 1.25in bridge riser (since bullpup), now I just need a can and it's near on-par with the sizing of a ps90 (but it shoots 7.62x39 so.. Win)
Pros:
  • ambidextrous
  • Finish - Quality
  • no buffer tube required
Cons:
  • Heavy
Best Used for:
  • gettin BULLPUP'D
  • if you want to
  • because you want to

Maybe not for everyone

Sharp looking monolithic upper! After slight adjustment to the lower hand gaurd screws, it fits great on my Spikes lower. No hammering, filing, no stress. No buffer assembly, so you can rock a folding butstock, or forgo the stock for a shorter profile. Cycles through ammo like a dream, groups improved to .5 MOA, & recoil is significantly less. Ive got a thermal scope on order, going to set this up for night predators, pigs & such.
Pros:
  • Many
Cons:
  • None

Item discription misleading

by Tim Schwarz, Verified Owner from MN, United States Written on July 12, 2024
Excellent machining, quality fit and finish. I’m not giving Faxon two stars. I’m giving Optics Planet two. What’s included is misleading. I thought I was getting an upper assembled ready for 9mm and a 7.62x39 barrel for conversion. Why use ar9 described in the description. I have a 556 faxon upper ordered from Optics Planet already. Why would I not wait for conversions. What drew me to this is the two options i did not have. This is not worth $1000 unless it came in two different calibers. Hope this helps somebody from a mistake.

Faxon Arak-21 Marvel of Engineering

by Sidney, from NC, United States Written on March 3, 2020
I picked up a new in box Arak-21 with 16inch .300 and .556 barrels at an estate sale recently and it has proven to be by far the best Semi-Automatic rifle I have ever owned. In reliability, recoil, and accuracy and it blows my Sig 556, Bushmaster AR, and Romanian PSL and AKs, out of the water on all counts. Running Precision One ammunition with a Hiperfire SS trigger I got an average of .9 MOA from a bench rest, (one group was less than .3), and the most amazing thing is that even after switching the barrel from .300 to 5.56, a process that takes 3 min, I was able to hit 6 inch plates at 200 yards with the same hold of an unadjusted Meprolight True Dot RDS. I could not believe this at first, and some of you will undoubtedly think I am exaggerating.

After my first shooting session when I had some failures to feed from fresh mags, but this was probably a bad mag, Otherwise I have had 100% reliability over 750+ rounds with Magtech subsonic, Precision One 208 Grain match, and personal reloads of 208 and 220 grain pills, both Suppressed and unsuppressed. When I attached a an Omega 45k suppressor onto the .300 barrel it is well below hearing safe with 200, 208, 220 grain reloads, and even runs flawlessly with 150. Its of course even quieter when you turn off the gas. It does get dirty after a couple hundred rounds suppressed, but cleaning it is no harder than an AR, far easier than a Sig 556 or PSL, and the powder buildup has yet to cause malfunction up to 300 rounds suppres...
