JP's Review of Firefield 2.5-10x40 Rifle Scope w/ Green Laser

First scope I received was the scope listed above. The mounting brackets made this scope hopeless from the get go. I foresaw issues before mounting by looking at the attachment points provided on the scope. I turned out being correct. I will be sending a second scope back for exchange now. The replacement for the first defective unit was replaced with a 2nd one that was the FF13028. Now that a second one has failed and both in under 2 mags of ammo or less I really don't see any viable options offered by this company for me. Maybe they will surprise me?!?!? Only problem is I don't see any optics I want to try with the track record on the past two. Both scopes lost zero and then the ability to adjust POI via the vertical adjustment knob. So 0/2 and not feeling good about the 3rd. One positive is Firefield gave me no issue on the first return and I'm hoping this one follows suit. My mounting system is solid. It is a $110 KVAR side mount for a AK74 platform .223, so recoil couldn't be the culprit. After this unit lost zero and would return I considered it failing and to verify it wasn't me I attached a Primary Arms red dot to the mount and drilled 3 shot group in 1-2" at 25 yards with little effort and was able to make proper vertical adjustments with it as well to get precise.
The FF13028 seemed well made out of the box and was pretty light overall and the glass was really clean. The red dot was crisp and had no issue keeping groups small. The Only thing is the groups wandered off my zero and would not respond to elevation adjustment. Aside from these pluses the unit is now in paper weight mode in hopes Firefield will right me once again. I really wanted to like and enjoy this scope , but it just isn't possible with the poor durability and NON ZERO capabilities and no response to adjustments.
Please Help. It will be greatly appreciated.
Pros:
  • Upgraded replacement for a previous defective cheaper scope
  • Firefield was very prompt and helpful through the first defect exchange. Hoping for the same service again.
Cons:
  • Zero does not hold
  • Vertical adjustment knobs had no effect on moving my POI
  • Second defective unit in a row
Best Used for:
  • At this time..... A paperweight , unfortunately
