This unit is absolutely awesome. It is a game changer. You can spot small animals (birds, mice, etc.) at 100 yards easily. This has definitely changed the way I hunt. If you can afford it BUY IT. I generally use the instant notification I1 or I2 setting (forget its official name) that shows red when there is life.
The $1000 off rebate is a ridiculous deal. I wish they had that promotion when I bought mine.

Pros:
- it will change your life
- long battery life (I worry it will fade)
Cons:
- maybe only having a rechargable battery
Best Used for:
- anytime you need to detect life forms
