Maybe there is a break in period but I can only get 7 rounds to fit with normal effort and 8 if I really try. After taking the spring out and inspecting it seems that the carrier that the first two rounds sit on push it to the side of the magazine which causes it to interfere with the indentation intended to prevent more than 10 rounds being loaded.
