Legacy Reviewer's Review of Fobus Compact Ankle Holsters for 1911

The holster is typical Fobus, two halfshells fastened together retaining the weapon with an interference fit. It works well. What doesn't work so well is the way the holster is fastened to the strap. The 1911 is a heavy weapon, 26 to 40 ounces, depending on the model. I use this holster with a Defender model, on the light end of the scale and found the weapon would flop about the single point of contact that attaches the holster to the strap. This causes the weapon to rotate around my ankle (or gives the sensation of doing so) and I find myself continually cinching the strap tighter. This in turn causes the strap to move down my leg to the narrowest point, just above my ankle and now the end of the barrel is resting on my shoe and the widest part of the strap is actually inside my shoe a little. I don't know if this is a problem common to ankle holsters but I think they should have run the strap on the outside of the holster to help stabilize it. It just doesn't feel secure even though there's no real chance the weapon will get loose.

This isn't my primary conceal holster I have an IWB and an OWB too, the latter also being a Fobus. I got this holster because an IWB still prints with a fitted shirt and I'll probably continue using it, it just isn't my favorite way to carry, at least not with this particular holster.
Pros: easy to put on and take off, easy to holster weapon
Cons: doesn't feel secure
