Most Helpful Positive Review Excellent rapid-fire alternative for semi-auto mp5 builds
There isn't much to say here in terms of function: the unit is simple in design and works flawlessly. It is built quite well and comes with extensive instructions for the moderately advanced user. Be aware that this is intended for "semi-auto" conversions and not a "push pin" style (nfa) automatics....

Most Helpful Negative Review Fire Power plus
This trigger works as described with practice. Installation was relatively easy. Trigger pull is harder than expected but with a lot of ammo and a little practice, it’s works well. Put this in a HK sp5 which makes it as close to a MP-5 as you’re going to get and still be legal. The drawback is the ...

Franklin Armory BFSIII HK-C1 Trigger - Binary Firing System for HK 91/93/MP5

by Ronin48, Verified Owner from NC, United States Written on August 15, 2025
I purchased this binary trigger for my MKE/Century Arms MP5/AP5. I installed it the same day it arrived. Delivery was faster than I expected. Read the instructions and it was easy to install. Not as complicated as the video online from Franklin Armory would lead you to believe. The video was more confusing than helpful, follow the instructions that comes with the kit and you'll do fine. Test fired the weapon also the same day. Very impressed. It isn't the same as a full auto MP5, which I had the privilege of firing when in the military, but this kit makes no such claim, it is binary not full auto. It reminded me more of a Gatling gun rate of fire. Now as I shoot it more, and find that "sweet spot" in my triggering technique, it may ultimately have a higher cyclic rate and as it "breaks in" but overall I'm impressed with it and Optics Planet had a special code at the time discounting it, so the kit cost me $585, not the $629 that you see advertised by most other vendors currently. I think it was 13% off the regular price, which is better than my military discount. Anyway, if like me you can't afford a real class 3 full auto MP5, but owning one that comes close is on your bucket list, pull the trigger on this kit.
Pros:
  • As close as you can legally get to a full auto MP5 without a class 3 license.
Cons:
  • A little pricey, but anything related to a HK MP5 is...nuff said LOL.
Best Used for:
  • FUN, home/self defense, accurate quick double taps.

Semi FUN Switch

by Trump2024, Verified Owner from OH, United States Written on February 22, 2025
Purchased this item for my clone MP5. Wanted to have more fun shooting than your typical semi auto. Have purchased Franklin Binary triggers for other guns and it makes for a fun time at the range. If you’re on the side lines of purchasing this trigger…don’t be. It’s a lot of fun….the legal way.

The trigger has three stages. Safe, semi auto and binary. It’s pretty straight forward and is the easiest trigger to install of all the Franklin Armory triggers. Just take apart the mp5 and drop it in.

Depending on your mp5 you have, you might have to adjust the extractor. This was my only issue I had after a few hundred rounds fired. If you get failure to feed or double feed, this is more than likely your issue. Just adjust the extractor and you should be good to go. Stick with 124gr fmj ammo also. The Binary trigger and firearm does very well with it.

Only down side I would say is the price! Try and get it on sale. I think The price is extremely over priced. If money is no issue though, go for it!

Works, slight mod needed for AP5K-P

by Curt, Verified Owner from OK, United States Written on February 16, 2025
Trigger works and delivers a big smile. The only issue is with my MKE AP5K-P the holes didnt exactly align for the rear pins and I had to dremmel the plastic slightly to get them to slide in. This was a fast and easy mod which you cant see because the selector lever hides it.

Not a very nice trigger

by Richard, from ME, United States Written on October 30, 2023
I've wanted one of these for awhile and finally bought one. Initial impressions of of the package were positive and the parts appeared to be good quality. Honestly once it was together I was pretty disappointed with the feel of the trigger.I have a couple Bill Springfield triggers, the Timney trigger and a bunch of stock triggers. In semi auto firing this would be my last choice out of the four different versions I own. The selector switch is extremely poor in terms of positively locking into each position. After 2 boxes of ammo I'm already over the binary setting which is really the only thing this trigger has going for it. I've already taken it out of my lower and put the Timney back in. Serious buyers remorse for something that will likely sit in a drawer in my gun bench for the rest of it's life.
Pros:
  • Binary is fun for a few minutes
Cons:
  • everything else
Best Used for:
  • Wasting ammo

Over priced, not worth the money.

by mike, Verified Owner from MI, United States Written on April 8, 2023
The semi auto position is very loose, the trigger switches too easily from binary to safe, or from safe to binary. It doesn't hold in position very well in semi auto. Installation is tricky and the set screw actually gets in the way of the grip module.
The safety selectors swing straight down in binary mode and block the trigger guard, which is very uncomfortable to shoot. Overall I'm disappointed, and if Optics planet took returns on this item I'd send it back.

Best MP5 Triger

by Jbritt, from TX, United States Written on July 10, 2022
This was super easy to install and no adjustments or tuning were required. Very impressed with both ease of use and functionality. The price seemed a little excessive but once you look at this triger you will see that alot of R&D went into this setup.
Pros:
  • Easy instal
Cons:
  • Expensive

Not for ambi users

by Cory, from UT, United States Written on September 10, 2021
The selector lever extends down into the grip area when in binary mode and interferes with your grip. I am a left handed shooter, so I had to remove the left side lever to make the gun usable with this trigger. I like HK because they tend to support ambidextrous operation, but my SP5K is no longer ambi. Will likely put the original HK trigger back on the gun or pay to have a machinist fabricate a usable lever. Contacted their customer service to address the issue and was told that this is their standard HK trigger lever. Overall feel of the trigger is not worthy of HK.
