Lt. Anthrax's Review of Gerber Downrange Tomahawk Axe
I had a couple different tomahawks, many had handles too short. This handle length feels just about right for me. The hammer feature is a great and allows me to take the claw hammer out of my tool bag. The hard plastic sheath will protect the blade from dings and has a snap strap fastener. I also just like Gerber products, epically their multi tools.
A couple cons I need to mention, the handle is thin and need some girth for a comfortable grip. I wrapped it with some tan 550 cord from the bottom half down. To give some additional chopping leverage I wrapped it to just about 2 in above the end of the pry bar. The axe head has a dull edge but will split 2x4 easily to make kindling for the fire but I think it will and sharp edge to cut rope or chop downed trees.
I think the plastic handle panels runs up a little hi, when chopping 2x4's the split wood hits it. Lastly the molle sheath that it comes with is useless in my opinion, fortunately I have some plans to make a custom carrier to fit my needs.
