HRL's Review of GG&G Accucam QD Standard Base Rail

I have several of these and other models of GG&G's Accucam QD bases on various long-guns to keep my scopes close to zero if I have to remove them for maintenance. I will continue to go to GG&G Accucam QD bases in the future.

For anyone looking for specifications, this GGG-1197 is 5 inches long (2 inches shorter than the GGG-1236 "Scout Length" QD base), weighs 6 ounces, and adds approximately 1/2-inch more height to the attached scope (maybe another 1/32-inch on that 1/2-inch height). There are also other Accucam QD bases and with various integral ring configs, and for EOTech sights, ACOG sights, and Aimpoint sights.

Hints to maintaining best possible zero:
- Following mfr instructions, get the base's locking cam lever adjustment tight enough to make sure the scope's inertia does not allow it to move under the firearm's recoil, but not too tight to damage the base.
- Before locking the cam lever down, make sure the QD base is resting forward against the muzzle-end of the slight gap between each Picatinny slot (when the firearm recoils, it moves rearward while inertia of the scope and QD base want to stay in place).
- If satisfied after firing a few rounds with eye relief (including at maximum optical power), and the static hold of the QD base, finish zeroing the system, and do NOT change the tension on the cam lever.
- The tension of the cam lever and the exact position of the QD mount to the indexed Picatinny slot below it are critical to maintaining zero. Mark a Picatinny slot on the firearm to be sure the scope goes back on in the same place.
Pros:
  • You get what you pay for
Cons:
  • Pricey, but that come with quality and precision
