Beans's Review of GG&G MAD Top Mounted Deployable Iron Sight

This is the email body I’ve recently sent to GG&G since the option to return this sight is no longer available. I waited too long to mount this rear sight and the option to return it is no longer available on the OP app.

My name is Marco. I bought a GG&G Rear Sight w/ Ranging to compliment the Precision Reflex Industries A2 height Gas Block and flip up front Sight on my rifle.

It was purchased from Optics Planet. I’ve yet to check with them on returning the sight for a credit but I wanted to see the extent of the lifetime warranty from the source.

I’d blame my aging eyes yet I only have an issue with this actual rear sight. I understand the concave/ convex debate with varied rear sights. My eyes do favor flat apertures such as the Scalarworks Peak fixed rear or 2A Armament flip up rear sight. I also have the Magpul MBUS Pro, PRI flip up and Daniel Defense on other AR15’s. No issues with any of these sights listed.

The issue this sight is causing is an oblong effect on my front sight under varied light conditions. The PRI front sight is perfectly round and has been tested with some of my other rear sights. It is my humble opinion that 3 things are the major cause of a distorted sight picture.
1) The concave ranging aperture sits forward of a flat plate containing a 2nd circle (the plate holding in the ranging apertures). The plate has a flat port (neither concave or convex).
2) The screw securing the outer plate to the assembly provides its own reflection under varied light conditions.
3) The front of the sight has a very large exit port. Though large, it’s also deep; thus causing a different shadow/ variable light refraction.
These 3 anomalies are are distorting the sight picture enough to create the oblong effect.

I don’t know the extent of the warranty but I will not be replacing the rear sight with another one like it.

I hope this helps as I tend to geek out on things for posterity. I’ll be checking with Optics Planet for a credit as this rear sight was not cheap at $150. $119 sale price.

Note: the first sight I returned to OP immediately. The leaf failed and the button popped out when flipping the sight into the down position. This is the 2nd one I was finally mounting.

Thank you,

Marco M.
