Michael's Review of Grid Defense 7.62x39 Upper Receiver

I received this upper and while I've order a few uppers from my local Florida company directly, Ghost Firearms, I've found the quality to be good enough for repeat purchases. The quality of the cerakote is top notch. It's even and holds up well against wear. This is not a "complete upper" with a BCG and charging handle, and while I know this and other manufacturers (Aero Precision) use the same wording, I wish there were a standard for companies calling their uppers "complete". This is not a battle rifle. However, I would use mine to defend my life and my uppers have held up well and sometimes better than other uppers I've had from other manufacturers in the same price point. Any malfunctions I've had to with almost everything to with other than the upper itself and how it was put together. Buffer weight, hard primers, bad ammo, out of spec BCG... none of which was due to the quality of the upper or barrel. 762x39 uppers are getting easier to find but the round doesn't lose much energy loss from shortening it from a 16" to a 10.5" so if you can handle the braces available, I would go with a 10.5"-12" barre length for the caliber. Very fun and used to be super cheap to shoot. I'm very happy with the this particular upper. I would like the option for better barrels. The hand guard itself is very nice as well.
Pros:
  • Great cerakote job, decent hand guard, holds up better than other uppers in same price point
Cons:
  • No BCG, no option for higher quality hand guard or barrel, not a battle rifle
Best Used for:
  • General use, home defense, range plinking, building a cool looking AR47
