Tee-J's Review of Guntec USA AR-15 Builders Kit
If this were my first time installing lower parts, I would have been absolutely frustrated trying to figure out why this process is so difficult. If you are a first timer, please read below and consider other options. This kit made the process harrowing and discouraging. There are better kits out there to start out with.
This was my first time using a builder's kit from Guntec. I normally use CMMG's Zeroed, which will now be my
Go To after this experience. First, the Bolt Catch Pin is not presized. It comes open and you have to size it yourself. Most kits have the pin already sized for installation, however, in this kit it's not. So that's going to add some time to building your AR and maybe a little frustration as well. Next, the Selector Detent is too long. With the dentent and spring installed, there is too much pressure causing the selector to lock in place and not rotate properly. You won't be able to use it. You will end up going to your local Academy or Gun store to pick up a Lost Parts Kit and using the one in there. I was lucky that I had some extra parts so I just didn't use Guntec's Selector Detent at all. Last, the takedown detents causes the same issue as the selector detent. This causes the pivot pin to be extremely sticky instead of moving smoothly. Overall, would not make this purchase again. Its' a pretty expensive kit to have to run into these installation issues.
