Grendel59's Review of Hawke Sport Optics Endurance 30 6-24x50 Rifle Scope 30mm Tube Second Focal Plane

Purchased scope and received in less than one week. Had noticed Hawke scopes on several sights without many reviews. Finally got my hands on one at a local gun show. They had both the sidewinder and endurance models. I wanted a variable with 24 power or higher. The endurance model had the .223 marksman retiticle and the sidewinder had the Sr pro retiticle. First impression was clear glass and the light gathering was excellent . The fast focus eye piece was stiff, but focused the retiticle both black and illuminated red. I zoomed the power setting to 24 and the eye piece remained focused. The buildings were about 100 yards in lenght. The optics were impressive , especially when compared to a Nikon predator special and a Vortex viper that the vendor was also selling. After about an hour with the scope both indoors and out, I decided to purchase the 6-24x50 sf Endurance scope . I went home and researched prices online. If the gun shows vendor was close on price I would purchase it from him. Optics planets price was $100.00 less than anywhere else.Sorry gun show guy. I received the scope and mounted it on my AR 15 with a Burris PERP 30 mm mount. I sighted it in at 50 yards. The third shot was dead center. I raised the poi 1.56" for a 100 yard zero. The shot hit center again at the 100 yard . I continued to raise the poi for a 300 yard zero. Once verified, I was able to hit my 5" gong with five consecutive shots. My only use for the scope and rifle is ground squirrels and prarie dogs. I like the scope much better than the Nikon 6-24x50 w/ BDC reticule and the Vortex Viper6-20x44w/ wide v-plex. The Vortex color dispersion and eye relief at max power is awful. For small targets at distance the Nikon BDC reticule and eye relief is worse than the Vortex. I have a prarie dog gong and it is not covered by the Hawke marksman reticule and the eye relief I remained at approx 3.7 ". I will definitely purchase another Hawke Endurance scope for my other rifle.
Pros:
  • clear glass
  • Consistent eye relief at all power settings
Cons:
  • none so far
