Rusty's Review of Hawke Sport Optics Frontier 30 Side Focus 2.5-15x50 Rifle Scope 30mm Tube Second Focal Plane
I would first like to say I was a big fan of this scope... Right up until the time it broke... twice...
The first one I received had the wrong reticle... OK mix ups happen, I sent it back and received the one I wanted 1 week later... The glass was good, the 6x zoom is great the parallax control works correctly and the turrets track accurately, the illuminated reticle was very good in all light... It was all very positive...
Until I put 60 rounds through it (308win so nothing to massive). Then everything falls apart... Dark splotches appear on the reticle and the scope no longer holds zero, also the reticle starts to move/rotate inside the scope housing... Hawke optics warranty asked me to send back again with the promise that the next scope would be thoroughly checked over, soon after sending the scope back for the second time I recieved a third scope replaced under warranty... This scope was then remounted and taken to the range for zeroing again... Once again about 80 rounds into the session before it breaks again, exact same fault as last time despite the "thorough checking"...
After explaining my situation to my retailer and hawke optics warranty department, (a lot of money spent on ammo and range fees, which are not cheap in Australia, plus a hunting rifle that couldn't be used for hunting for 3 months). I was offered another replacement again with no offer of compensation. I refused and got my money back...
Great scope on the outside, Chinese meltdown on the inside... Never again...
