Hi-lux: poor quality - Hi-Lux Optics Sharps Side Mount Sets

The concept of a side mount for the Sharps rifle would have been a good one, if it had been executed properly, with quality parts. Unfortunately, that is not the case here.

Utilizing screw holes already present on te rifle instead of requiring drilling and tapping for the mounts was a good idea. Hi-Lux only went half-way with this idea, though. The front mount still requires drilling and tapping one hole in the barrel - Might as well do four of them for standard bases if you are going to do one.

The side mount and the front mount require the use of longer screws in order to attach them, but the screws provided by Hi-Lux were threaded differently from the original screws used on my Shiloh Sharps. The one screw for the front mount did not fit at all.

Consequently, this mount is not usable at all in its present state. I am hoping that I did not damage the threading in the holes on my Shiloh Sharps by attempting to use the screws provided, but I won't know until I remove them and attempt to replace the original screws.

I would suggest staying away from this mount and simply getting your barrel drilled and tapped for standard bases. In addition, I tried to contact Hi-Lux several times via their email address for any issues (techsupport@hi-luxoptics.com), but they never responded (it was delivered but they simply didn't answer).

The Wm. Malcolm scope I bought made by them is adequate, but I won't be buying any more products made by Hi-Lux.
