Loyal2no1's Review of HME CL-PR COYOTE LIGHT PRO RED CLPR

For a $350+ (red) light I was expecting some serious performance but so far I've only experienced mediocrity. I can honestly say I'm not impressed with it as it's not outperforming a far cheaper LED lenser or Coast flashlight by any great margin with regards to beam. In fact to get any real distance you have to set the beam to focus which is ridiculously tiny and not really practical. Yeah. I'm pretty confident Coyotelight's claims of spotting eyes up to 800m is complete lie as I can barely get an ID on a sheep at 200m. And that's on a clear night. Admittedly it is an ergonomic ergonomic flashlight with good controls and there are some decent accessories for it, however there are no 34mm + optics mounts (which is scope that I'm using) and the Picatinny handle should have had a lanyard loop built in. Also the CoyoteLight website hardly ever has anything in stock and their customer service is practically non-existent. How they justify that price tag is beyond me... That said if it was a $150 price MAX I'd be writing a less scathing review, however it is still an under-powered light IMO as I bought it to cull deer and pigs in NZ up to 180m but I'm finding it to be more of a 100m killing light. Maybe the white light option outperforms the red by a wide margin but I won't be spending any more money to find out. I understand Coyotelight has it's staunch fans and I did my research prior to buying by speaking to a few of them but I have no idea what they're on about. Hopefully another company out there will reverse engineer this light and offer an updated similar version at a better price. I bought this light in an effort to bypass having to purchase a thermal scope to complement my Pulsar monocular but now I'm having serious doubts and may just cough up...
Pros:
  • Ergonomics
  • Some accessories
  • Seems rugged
Cons:
  • price
  • No 34mm mounts
Would Recommend: No
