I'm extremely happy with the Hogue checkered arched black G10 Mainspring Housing for full-size 1911s. Biggest difference between this MSH and others is obviously the material: G10. This is the only non-metal MSH I could find, and decided to take a chance. It seems lighter than the metal MSHs I've handled, but I haven't handled every MSH out there, nor did I actually weigh any MSH...it just feels lighter to me. The G10 MSH may not be to the liking of traditional 1911 owners, but I like it very much. I like the 1911, but am willing to break with tradition and try new things. Traditional 1911 grips have your hand coming in contact with the metal frame on the front strap and the MSH. Nothing wrong with that, but my goal was to put non metal material between my hand and the metal frame of the 1911. I wasn't trying to fix a problem with the 1911, just wanted to see if I could improve it with this G10 MSH. I already have Hogue wraparound rubber finger groove grips on my 1911, which probably drives some 1911 owners crazy, and now I have this G10 MSH on it. So I accomplished my goal of no skin to metal contact on the grip, and I'm very happy with how the 1911 turned out. Compared to other premium 1911 MSHs, the Hogue G10 MSH was less expensive, but obviously they're more expensive than low end MSHs, so it's relative to what you're accustomed to.
Aside from the material of this MSH, G10, most owners will probably not notice any big difference between this and other MSHs. ...
